Thinking of doing a Warrior Run? Think you have what it takes to be a Warrior?
February 15th, 2012 by adminThinking of doing a Warrior Run? Think you have what it takes to be a Warrior? We here at Warrior Run know that everyone can be a Warrior. This race is about having fun while challenging yourself in a test of strength and endurance. The most important thing to do in a Warrior Run is HAVE FUN! Laugh incredibly hard, work your body hard and celebrate at the end of a tough and extreme but friendly competition. Anyone can complete a Warrior Run but some will do it better than others. The thing to keep in mind is that the challenge is the one you create for yourself, how do you want to feel while competing in the Warrior Run and how do you want to feel after, besides having the best time of your life in a physically challenging competition how do you want your body to feel after?
We here at Warrior Run are not fitness experts but we do take pride in training our bodies for such challenges and researching the best ways to prepare our bodies and minds for challenges such as Warrior Run. We have decided to pass along some tips that we have compiled to give you a head start on starting to train for the Warrior Run from the couch potatoes to the extreme athletes. We invite those that have their own tips to please comment on our blogs with your own tips and what you do to train for competition. We want this to be an open forum on what it takes to make Warriors! Whether you are a Warrior sprouting from the ground up or a already well accomplished Warrior we want to hear from YOU!
The most important thing to start doing if you don’t already is get moving! If you don’t run or jog on a regular basis already then it is a good idea to get started on a program to get your body moving. You don’t need to win Warrior Run but you don’t want to be unprepared for the physical challenges of it either! We would rather not see you panting like a dog and looking like you are going to pass out and need our medical personnel to attend to you!
Make sure if you don’t already have the proper shoes to start a running program to buy a good pair of shoes that will fit you well and are made for the kind of training you are going to do. Not sure how to go about this go to a specialty store and that is usually staffed by veteran runners and shoe experts and get fit with the right shoes. Most importantly though, do not wear these said shoes to Warrior Run unless they are at the recommended end of their lifespan, i.e. with roughly 350 to 500 miles already on them and you are prepared to be rid of them! Brand new running shoes do not fare well after a Warrior Run, they will never look the same!
Once you have the shoes and are ready to start, develop a plan, start slow if you are just a beginner or coming back from injury, illness or just returning to running. How much time you want to put into training depends on you and your physical fitness level and ability.
